Trauma occurs when our nervous system becomes overwhelmed by events that happen outside of our control and we are unable to respond in a way that provides safety. Fear naturally takes over in the primitive parts of our brain, which can lead to confusion and disorientation.
The good news is that in a strong and secure relationship and by working with the body, humans are innately wired to return to a resourced state of balance and emerge with a stronger and more resilient sense of self.
My experience as a social worker in high trauma environments and trainings in trauma resolution, which are based on Buddhist teachings and Somatic Experiencing skills, have given me the capacity and skill set to support my clients in healing from trauma.
